Regards and colors from Rajasthan.

Years ago, I traveled to Rajasthan as a part of a TV documentary crew. We spent a couple weeks there, driving from Jodhpur to Shahpura, discovering impossible places and meeting wonderful people. I took thousands of pictures while I was there. Then I went back to my projects, and the pics were buried away for quite a while.
A few years later I reopened the folder and was immediately overcome by an intense series of flashbacks. Smells, colors, and lights, mixed together with this indescribable humidity, the insecure feeling of speed and fever that only India can convey. I was transported again, back to the dirt tracks. Nonetheless, after printing some of these mesmerizing shots, I felt frustrated, as if these splendid faces had lost their souls and their purpose. I was looking for something more. Unsatisfied, I closed the folder.
Finally, a few month ago, I got a vision. The piece of the puzzle that was missing. I found that by displaying several photos together, it allowed me to extend the stare beyond the eye, and create unity between the scenes. So I started to recreate the link between the places, the people, and the colors through a series of photos, or polyptychs. Displayed against a stark white background with a simple hue chart at the bottom to emphasize the tension in the colors, the photos came back to life and I felt once more that I could feel their gazes.

Please embark on a journey far far away, into the regards and colors from Rajasthan.
